Taking female physicality as her starting point, Florentina Holzinger shifts between popular genres such as the talent show or the revue, and canonical Art with a capital A. For her latest total spectacle Ophelia’s got talent the Viennese idealist was inspired by literary characters associated with water: Leda, Melusine, Ondine, nymphs, Nereids, sirens and of course Ophelia. They entice (and Holzinger entices) us into the depths to confront the audience with what they do not want to see: a threatening climate catastrophe, wars, misogyny, objectification, and so on. In her oceanic stage landscape, Holzinger reflects on violence, procreation and healing. A spectacular, physical study of the psychology of water in the 21st century by an intergenerational, all-female cast of energetic daredevils.
