简介
Some artists spend most of their careers to find their musical home while others get there early. Sophie Zelmani had already found her home when she released her first album and so far she hasn’t shown any signs of wanting to run away from that home. Ever since the acclaimed debut in 1995 she has stayed true to her vision. Never swayed, never hesitated. With each new album her melancholic, country scented music has taken small steps forward, somewhat shifting in expression but never leaning towards musical trends. When you’re in the business of making timeless music, you don’t have to do that.
On the eighth of September, Sophie Zelmani releases her eighth album, The Ocean and Me. And this time she and her long time associate, Lasse Halapi, decided to try out something new. Instead of recording the songs one by one they choose to record them in a given order several nights in a row, thereby letting the songs influence each other and grow forth in a spontaneous flow. From these sessions the best takes were chosen from a holistic point of view. What we hear in the end result is the magic of the moment - we hear the music as it was played there and then. It lives and breathes, providing the perfect setting for Sophie’s soft and beautiful voice, singing words of yearning, regret and bitter-sweet love.
