简介
Aneka’s lost her Japanese boyfriend. She’s looked in all the cupboards and under the bed, but she still can’t find him. This pseudo-operatic and highly irritating sticks-in-your-head-and-stays-there song has enjoyed a brief resurrection after Rock Star Games used it in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. Aneka’s real name is Mary Sandeman, and she's from Scotland, not Japan. “Japanese Boy” came about when Mary met Bob Heatlie, an Edinburgh-based songwriter responsible for “Merry Christmas Everyone.” Mary persistently asked Bob to write a song for her, since she’d always fancied being a pop star. Bob then spliced together a couple of songs he’d made earlier to create “Japanese Boy.” This is how these things really happen, people. Unsurprisingly for anyone who has ever heard it, it was turned down by every record label in the UK before Germany’s Hansa snapped it up. It was then a huge hit worldwide. Sadly, Aneka had trouble emulating the inexplicable success of “Japanese Boy,” although she did have a minor hit with another equally irritating tune called “Ooh Shooby Doo Doo Lang.”
