‘Like I Usually Do’ from Q Funktion is a 7-track album filled with heavy, funky boom bap beats. The title track ‘Like I Usually Do’ is a great album opener and starts off with a remarkable blues piano followed by straightforward drums. After a minute the sample gets completely flipped and the track transforms into a straight banger. With ‘My Music’ Q Funktion shows he can turn his hand to anything. The track is carried by a piano and guitar on the offbeats accompanied by brass instruments that gives this track a real nice reggae feel. The second half sounds more dubby with long echoes and an organ solo. Altogether, this track is smartly arranged and has a perfect summer festival vibe. ‘The Night Came’ follows with a freaky organ and a female voice telling you “its so, so dark outside..”. With a deep sine bass and a bouncy beat at around 90 bpm this is hip hop in his rawest form. ‘Like I Usually Do’ is a well thought out album filled with funk and reggae influences where every track tells a unique story.
