在音乐的国度里不可能发生的事情是很少的，但也是总会有那么一两件发生的机率要小于其他，比如——让两位伟大小提琴手联袂演出，如果办到了，那已足够令人惊叹。但如说，让两位来自不同音乐领域——爵士与古典——的伟大的音乐家的录制张专辑，机率有多大可想而知。但这的确发生了：Menuhin & Grappelli Play…就是这么张专辑。
也许很简单就可以解释，来自不同音乐领域的顶尖级人物会不可避免的相互敬重，因为音乐的魅力就是这么不可思议。所以说Stéphane Grappelli 和Yehudi Menuhin的合作绝不是偶然，从1973年的专辑Jealousie开始，他们先后合作录制至少六张唱片。
Stéphane 和Yehudi 凭着对音乐的热忱、精湛的技巧、彼此间的信任、以及必不可少的团队支持（bass、drum、piano、Max Harris Nelson Riddle的编排），使古典与爵士跨越彼此的边界，最终融合为一体。
Yehudi Menuhin (耶胡迪·梅纽因 1916-1999)
20世纪的伟大小提琴家。三岁开始跟小提琴家Sigmund Anker 学小提琴。七岁第一次在旧金山交响乐乐队伴奏下登台独奏小提琴。随后往巴黎跟从罗马尼亚著名作曲家和小提琴家乔治·埃内斯库学习。
八岁时Menuhin举行了他的第一次个人独奏音乐会，事后旧金山《观察家报》的音乐评论家宣称“这不是一般的天才，而是特殊的天才”。
1929年4月12日晚年方13岁的梅纽因在柏林演奏厅在柏林交响乐团伴奏下一口气演奏了巴哈E大调小提琴协奏曲、勃拉姆斯D大调小提琴协奏曲和贝多芬小提琴协奏曲；当晚爱因斯坦正在座，叹道：“我现在才知道，天上果然有上帝”。从此梅纽因名声大噪，周游世界演奏。
到了1929年底，他已经征服了纽约、巴黎、柏林和伦敦，并建立起了自己国际性的声望。1931年，与“留声机唱片公司”（EMI的前身）签订了一项终生的专属录音合同。这一合同一直延续至他的逝世，长达68年之久，这是唱片工业史上一项无人能企及的成就。
Menuhin是20世纪唱片史上第一位完整录制《帕格尼尼第一小提琴协奏曲》的小提琴家；他所录制的《莫扎特第6&7小提琴协奏曲》至今仍是唱片店里的奇货。梅纽因唱片的艺术价值与收藏价值也因此倍增。
Stéphane Grappelli （史蒂芬·葛瑞派里 1926-1997）
当曲风昂扬、弦音明亮的小提琴演奏版本，仍在全球各个角落激励着所有失意的人，让聆乐者内心充满希望时，而这首曲子最佳的詮释者?爵士乐史上最伟大的小提琴家，被称为「神弓」的Stéphane Grappellii，已於一九九七年十二月一日，因疝气病症辞世，享年八十九岁。
不只多数爵士乐评家、更有许多欧美古典乐评家都盛讚其技艺超群的史蒂芬．葛瑞派里，生於二十世纪初的一九○八年。而他最早成名於一九三四年加入欧陆即兴乐团「The Hot Club of France」，此乐团当时不但红遍欧洲大陆，更成为少数受到美国爵士乐界肯定的欧洲乐团。当葛瑞派里一九六九年到新大陆演出，出现在「新港爵士节」上时，他瀟洒的琴音完全掳获了当时仍然非常不容易打入的美国爵士界，乐评更一致给予非常高的评价，此后终其一生，不论葛瑞派里与何种乐器演奏者合作、录音或演奏几乎都成为即兴弦乐界的常胜军、小提琴典范。
Stéphane Grappelli （史蒂芬·葛瑞派里 1926-1997）自学而成的小提琴演奏技巧，融合古典学院派的长处与即兴音乐的自由随兴，使得他能轻鬆悠游於各个不同的音乐领域。在他超过七十年的演奏生涯里，更与各种特殊音色的乐器演奏家展开美妙而富新意的合作，最为人所津津乐道的，莫过於与吉他大师Django Reinhardt的「广泛跨界」（乐风横跨爵士、古典、拉丁音乐）弦乐对话。他与前卫铁琴手盖瑞．波顿（Gary Burton）晶莹剔透的合奏也被乐评家称为「不可思议的音色组合」。一九七三年他与古典小提琴家Yehudi Menuhin合作以双小提琴对奏的方式录製的作品，让《留声机杂誌》Gramaphone大为惊艳，许多古典乐界的小提琴家更对其跳弓、颤音的运用群起模仿，直到一九九○年代，小提琴大师帕尔曼与爵士钢琴大师奥斯卡．彼得森录製二重奏专辑《Side By Side》时，还虚心向葛瑞派里请益小提琴演奏爵士音乐的要诀，葛瑞派里「即兴小提琴宗师」的地位不言可喻。
Grappelli不但和蔼可亲，更对提携后辈不遗餘力，他与另一位小提琴手Jean-Luc ponty、矮小身形的钢琴天才米榭．派卓希安尼（Michel Petrucciani）都因为合作而结成亦师亦友的忘年至交。他持琴弓的力道至晚年仍然强韧，活泼的跳弓、写意的乐风，不但能让乐迷直接感受到他毕生对音乐的热爱，更在在都让乐迷在听闻他的音乐时，心中充满对人生的希望。
