...if one were to describe the reason why Monpou is inimitable,and what, onthe other hand, he has commom with all French music from Gabriel Faure and Debussy to Georges Migot,the first thing that comes to mind is his liking for and sense of sonority. Perhaps this is the secret behind his love for Chopin who inspired him to write twelve variations on one of Chopin's best-know prelude, and whose musical sensuality comes from such vibrant material.
