费德勒(Arthur Fiedler)与波士顿交响乐团“易容改装”而成的波士顿大众管弦乐团(Boston Pops Orchestra)，不仅试现代CrossOver横跨古典与流行演奏的先锋，更是美国靓声的最佳代表。在体制上属于贵族的欧洲古典音乐，经由费德勒传教式的热忱推广，终于成为美国平民大众生活的一部分，对于古典的小品曲目，以及当时流行的通俗曲目，他也能将之重新编整，以轻松甜美亦不失幽默的方式提供大家无尽的乐趣。
给儿童的古典音乐，乃是费德勒为未来的古典音乐迷精心设计的导聆，以圣桑(Saint-Saens)的“动物狂欢节”、布莱顿(Britten)的“青少年管弦乐入门”以及葛里格(Grieg)、古诺(Gounod)等人谱写的、故事性强烈、适合儿童聆赏的轻松曲目，配以赫奇.道恩斯(Hugh Downs)这位曾或艾美奖殊荣的广播电视名嘴清晰自然的旁白叙述，不仅适合亲子间共赏，初入门的成年爱乐者也适于以此片做为涉足古典音乐的敲门砖。谁说古典音乐可怕的？这张老少咸宜的唱片能引领各位进入美丽的音乐世界。
动物狂欢节全曲由14段小乐曲组成：1、序奏及狮王的行进。双钢琴的顿音展开了序奏的音乐，接着雄伟威严的进行曲展现了狮子雄壮的行进脚步，并不断地插进低声部半音阶行进，狮子的吼声如雷贯耳，令人不寒而栗。2、母鸡和公鸡。母鸡的叫声以单簧管演奏，公鸡啼鸣声则由钢琴奏出。3、野驴。双钢琴飞驰般的快速演奏，上下飞舞，描绘了野驴在大自然中无拘无束地驰骋、野性十足。4、乌龟。低音弦乐器演奏出乌龟诙谐缓慢地由远而近地爬行，不时地东张西望，偶尔吃一两口路边的青草，不慌不忙，憨态可掬。5、大象。低音提琴作为主奏乐器，演奏出较轻快的圆舞曲，低沉的声响加上舞曲的节奏，一听便可想象大象扭动着那笨重庞大的身躯，显得即滑稽可笑又形象生动。6、袋鼠。双钢琴交替奏出了跳跃性的音型，刻画出袋鼠轻快而敏捷的身影，互相追逐、嬉戏、无忧无虑，恰与大象的形象形成鲜明的对照。7、水族馆。双钢琴的琶音，展现了微波荡漾的水面、阳光在清彻的水中直射水底、千姿百态的鱼群在悠游，钢片琴则清晰地刻划了水中的波光鳞鳞。8、“长耳人”。小提琴以特殊的方法齐奏，怪诞的声响表现了莎士比亚喜剧“仲夏夜之梦”中一种驴头人身的怪物在声嘶力竭地鸣叫（也正是日常人们所见的驴叫），这是圣·桑在讽刺那些饶舌的所畏艺术权威们。9、林中杜鹃。钢琴以和弦轻轻地表现出幽静的森林，杜鹃的啼声在单簧管的模仿演奏下，栩栩如生。一种和谐宁静的大自然与前一段的声嘶力竭又形成了强烈的对比和心理感受。10、鸟舍。弦乐器奏出的颤音呈现出群鸟振翅高飞的画面，其间不断地有小鸟在跳跃在欢唱。11、钢琴家。车尔尼的钢琴简易音阶练习在此反复弹奏。描写一位初学钢琴的“钢琴家”在此大显身手，并且弹的十分起劲。一说是讽刺那些蹩脚的钢琴家。可是，就弹得十分自信来看，圣·桑不完全是否定之意。12、化石。打破时空界线，圣·桑赋予了古老的化石以生命力，它们渴望生活，渴望回到美丽的大自然，加入这狂欢的行列，化石狂舞的碰撞声在木琴的演奏中历历在目。13、天鹅。当各种不同性格、不同形态的动物全部出场之后，高贵神圣的天鹅才缓缓游来，清澈的湖水映衬着洁白美丽的“皇后”，在美丽和神圣面前，谁不肃然起敬？极其优美的旋律在大提琴上轻缓地流出，这首大提琴作品流传极广，经常在音乐会上单独演奏。14、终曲。当美丽与神圣到来之后，真正的狂欢开始了，在序奏的引导下，整齐而有节奏的欢庆场面充满着生机、充满着激情、充满着平等与博爱，没有物种界线、没有强弱之分、没有贵贱之别、没有时空间隔……、只有欢乐！狂欢中隐约可闻野驴的奔跑、嘶叫，但终被溶于欢乐的海洋之中。
