First of all I must say, to truly appreciate this album, you should listen to it from beginning to end (without breaks), rather than random tracks. Then and only then, can you understand and feel the atmosphere of this album.
The album opens with the ambient track “Illusion des Winters”. Taking you on a simple yet amazing journey, with howling winds, heavy keyboards and a sombre piano. Followed by the tracks “Ein düsterer Winter kommt”, parts I & II respectively. These two tracks alone create the main core of the album. Slow, viscous and dissonant guitar tones wrap the listener in a cold and lonely atmospheric blanket. Sit alone, listening with headphones and your eyes closed, and the true beauty of these tracks will be revealed. The vocals are more relaxed from previous releases, but still maintain their soul piercing energy, varying from spoken words to depressive and desperate screams. Combine this with the rhythm and repetition of the guitars, you can almost feel the heavy aura of dread and solitude, ever so nearly smell the earthiness and pine scents from the Carpathian forests surrounding Ukraine.
“Dissonanz Tropfen eines glühenden schmerzes” follows next, and the name speaks for itself; Dissonant Drops of Burning Pain”. Carrying the aura from previous tracks, enabling the listener to feel the pain within Moloch’s darkened heart. “Weg von dieser Welt voller Traurigkeit” asserts itself as the next track. Authorative guitars and powerful drums are pursued by desperate screams. “Unsichtbarer Faden des Lebens” is the penultimate track, lasting a little over a minute; it shouldn’t be seen as just filler. The massive atmosphere generated by this small track, composed of just drums and dark ambient, is incomparable to anything else! The album closes in typical Moloch style, with a 20+ minute opus. “Abgrund meines Wesens” would envy that of Vinterriket. Deep and doomy dark ambient giving a great ending to a great album.
This album is a little more varied than the previous album “Isolation der Essenz”. It’s also not your typical black metal album; there are no pummelling blast beats, no aggressive guitars. What we have here is one man’s reality, despair and vision of the bleak world we live in. Comparable to: Xasthur, Striborg, Nortt & Velvet Cacoon. Some will understand the beauty of this album, others simply... Will not...
