简介
直接电影直接涉及我们对纪录片概念的基本理解。从理论上说，反思、批判直接电影霸权是建设当代纪录片理论的逻辑起点。历史地看，从20世纪70年代中期到90年代中期，西方学者正是在反思、批判直接电影霸权的过程中确立了当代西方纪录片理论的基本格局。本辑收录了有关这一话题的若干重要文章。
美国导演弗雷德里克·怀斯曼（Frederick Wiseman）与直接电影之间有着密切关联，无论中西方，很多人都视其为直接电影的核心代表。此外，在20世纪90年代，怀斯曼对中国纪录片的发展也施加了独特的影响。有鉴于此，本辑选择他作为个案研究的对象。
