September 1898. During a visit to Geneva to see her friend and confidant Doctor Mayer, the Empress Elisabeth of Austria recalls her past. Her marriage to the Emperor Franz-Joseph, the intrigues of the Austrian royal court, which she relentlessly avoided, the constant arguments with her mother in law the Archduchess Sophia, and the special bond she has with her son Rudolf, along with her political and personal struggles.
The legendary Sissi, the cultured yet rebellious Empress who was born before her time, still does not know that her days are numbered. In just a few hours, trouble unfortunately awaits her at the port of Geneva, in the form of an Italian anarchist keen to make a name for himself.
