故事发生在1956年的意大利，安娜（弗洛伦丝·格林 Florence Guérin 饰）和丈夫贾科莫（西律斯·埃利亚斯 Cyrus Elias 饰）结婚多年，身为律师的贾科莫将大部分的精力都放在了工作上，这让安娜感到非常的寂寞。安娜十分想要一个孩子，可惜结婚这么多年了，她的肚子一直都没有动静。与此同时，安娜还肩负着照顾病重的母亲的责任，这些事情让她感到生活非常的压抑。
