On the heels of celebrating his 25th year as a solo artist milestone, Busta Rhymes drops the music video to “Where I Belong,” the sequel to “I Know What You Want” with the incomparable Mariah Carey, as the story continues to unravel loaded with twists and turns until the closing scene.
Hailing from E.L.E. 2, “Where I Belong” serves as a continuation of the story from the 2003 “I Know What You Want” music video in which Rhymes is tasked by his friend, played by martial artist and actor Michael Jai White, to protect his wife, played by actress Tae Heckard, for an evening. Leaving Rhymes and his friend empty-handed after a group of masked men jump out of a black Escalade, hijacking the home security and kidnapping the wife, “Where I Belong” continues the journey 18 years later searching for the woman.
Following Trippie Redd’s “I Got You” visuals, Redd calls Rhymes to say that he found the missing woman, who happens to be his love interest’s mother. Shifting back and forth from the live-action comics to present-day with Rhymes on his continued mission, Carey enters singing and narrating for the missing woman in red, “I won’t keep you waiting for too long, boy. Come through, take it off and get it on boy. Too long I was messing with the wrong boy. Should’ve known you was right where I belong boy.”
Rhymes and his friend go into battle with armoured soldiers as Rhymes raps, “Baby girl better know that I really give it up to you, and I know I’m feeling right, but I know it’s all because of you.” After proving himself and defeating the lady in red’s army, the woman removes her mask and reveals she wasn’t taken, but fakes her disappearance for Rhymes to come find her. Staying loyal to his best friend, they both leave the woman behind disappointed in her deceit and games.
