特吕弗的第一部彩色片，也是其作品中最富社会及政治意识的一部。在未来世界里，书籍一概被禁止，读书便是犯罪，所有书籍都要交出焚毁。消防员的任务不是灭火救人，而是焚书和捕捉读书人。于是有一些爱书者，把书背熟，希望日后可以流传，这些人称为「书人」。男主角本是一个忠心的消防员，焚书是他的职责。有次认识了一个女孩，受到她的影响，渐渐改变了人生观，发现了书本中原来充满了灵性的世界。经过这种温馨亲切的心灵生活，使她不能再忍受冷酷无情的机械社会。最后，他偷阅书本的背叛行为被妻子告发，他与情人设法逃往另一个符合他们理想的美丽世界，在那里有书籍的存在，重复人类真正的生活。 改编自美国作家雷·布烈伯里的科幻小说。（电影双周刊）

One Christmas, a knight garbed all in green appears in King Arthur's Court and challenges any knight to hew off his head on the proviso that he be allowed to return the axe stroke afterwards. The green knight then gives Gawain a year to find his home and live a little before the cut is returned.
