The past is never far behind. 虚构的角色霍克（史特林费洛‧霍克＝Stringfellow Hawke），身分是飞狼原始试飞员之一，受雇于“某公司”（The Firm，实际上是负责制造飞狼的中情局分处），任务是将飞狼从它的原始设计者，莫飞（查尔斯‧亨利‧莫菲特）博士（Dr. Charles Henry Moffett），手中偷回来。因为博士打算把飞狼卖给利比亚。然而成功夺回飞狼的霍克（史特林），却不打算把飞机还给中情局，而是以交出飞狼为条件要求山姆大叔（Uncle Sam，美国的昵称），让“某公司”去寻找他失踪的兄长霍辛金（Saint John）的下落。辛金是在参与越南作战时失踪（MIA）的。系列电视系列剧中也描写到美国政府一直亟于找出霍克（史特林），因为他老是用他藏在内华达沙漠“天神谷”中的新玩具耍得他们团团转。最终大天使与霍克（史特林）之间的交涉终于成立，CIA必须提供美国政府企图逮捕霍克（史特林）的相关情报，并协寻辛金的下落，而相对的，霍克（史特林）也必须适时出动飞狼，为CIA的作战助一臂之力。

制作群

《飞狼》的原创者是唐纳‧贝里沙立欧（Donald Bellisario），他也是《Magnum, P.I.》、《时空怪客》（Quantum Leap）、和《JAG》等电视系列剧的原创人。《飞狼》最早是1984年的电视电影，之后则衍生出一部电视系列剧。以合成器为主的强劲配乐由席维斯乐维（Sylvester Levay）作曲与弹奏。它的节奏让人联想起直升机螺旋桨转动的嗡嗡声。

第四季（1987年）被绝大多数的影迷们认为是水平以下，因为原先的演员很快地就在首集中以被杀或重伤来交代退场，霍克（史特林）的哥哥霍辛金（辛金‧霍克）神秘出现，并且活得好好的，他取代了霍克（史特林）成为主角，电视系列剧的制作工作也搬到了英属哥伦比亚，它的预算也遭删减。工作人员没办法使用原来的飞狼直升机，所有的飞行场景都是拿一到三季的画面回收使用。另外还制作了一个等比例的模型，来拍摄静态场景。

飞狼

飞狼实际上是一架贝尔222型（序号“47085”，注册号码“N3176S”）直升机，漆成黑色并加上许多剧情用的道具改装，像是涡轮发动机与进气口，藏在两侧轮舱前方的的链炮（Chain Gun），机腹还有可以收缩的全向火箭发射器（ADF Pod），在电视系列剧中出现过的武器包括空对空的响尾蛇导弹，空对地地狱火与小牛导弹等。在第一季之后，制作人考虑到“链炮”（chain gun）是麦克唐纳道格拉斯（McDonnell Douglas）公司的注册商标，所以后来就不再这么称呼它。其他的修改则是靠音效人员和舞台背景达成。内部的装潢充满了高科技的气息；它的“潜航”（静音飞行）能力是靠大量使用音效来达成。它有时候会被叫做“某女士”（The Lady）。它还有个孪生姐妹叫做“红狼”（Redwolf）。

电视系列剧下档之后这些修改就被移除了。直升机重新烤漆，最后卖给德国一家直升机出租公司，“Hubschrauber-Sonder-Dienst”（也叫做HSD Luftrettung与蓝天直升机联盟），注册号码为“D-HHSD”。1991年6月9日，在一场大雷雨中，现在是一艘普通的贝尔222型救护飞行器的飞狼，坠毁了，机上三名乘客全数丧生。
