An astral afro-futurist masterpiece of deep soul, cosmic dust, and startling originality. He s aided by a dream cast of collaborators: Anderson Paak, George Clinton, Yukimi Nagano of Little Dragon, Tierra Whack, Denzel Curry, Ishmael Butler of Shabazz Palaces, Toro y Moi, and his telepathic kinsman, Thundercat. David Lynch even pops up for an eerie narration wherein he somberly warns that, 'Fire is coming.' But they all naturally bend to the magnetic warp of Lotus spells -- a transfixing hex unto themselves.

You're Dead! is the upcoming fifth studio album by electronic musician Flying Lotus. It is set to be released on October 6, 2014, in the UK, and October 7, 2014, in the US, on Warp Records.

Flying Lotus' full-length Warp debut, Los Angeles appears to be much more of a mission statement than a simple introduction – laying the foundation for a field on which an entire generation of artists would soon be playing. While that album was an introspective, moody travelogue through the Californian metropolis, it certainly hinted at Flying Lotus inclination to expand his sound beyond terrestrial means. As you may deduce from the title of his latest opus, he s done just that. Not only has an entirely new range of sounds been unlocked by our intrepid astral traveler, but every genre touchstone associated with his name has been merged into a self-described space opera. Seamless in execution and too wide in scope to properly describe, it is the authentic embodiment of his unique musical heritage. Expect collaborations with relative Ravi Coltrane, bass virtuoso Thundercat and the brilliant harp prodigy, Rebekah Raff as well as Erykah Badu and Outkast string arranger Miguel Atwood-Ferguson PLUS guest vocalists Thom Yorke and a returning Laura Darlington (featured on Los Angeles epic closing track Inifinitum ) help deliver Cosmogramma to dizzying new heights.

2010 EP release from producer/musician Steven Ellison (AKA Flying Lotus). While the album Cosmogramma was high in concept and wide in musical collaboration, Pattern + Grid World pulls the focus back to Steven Ellison and his machines. These machines are speaking from the go, as "Clay" introduces itself in a fog of synth and vocoder and gives way to one of the many surprises here, the schizophrenic ping-ponging electro of "Kill Your Co-Workers". Drenched in alternating melodies, it's a synthetic counterpart to the grand string and harp arrangements of Cosmogramma, making acclaimed illustrator Theo Ellsworth's subtly psychedelic cover image of vision-through-noise all the more intimate.

With the Reset EP released October last year and his bootleg mixes of everyone from KELIS to MR. OIZO and MADVILLAIN circulating amongst the heads, FLYING LOTUS' name is on the lips of many as the leader of a new generation of artists emerging from California. A movement that has captured attention worldwide, fuelled by hip-hop and cutting-edge dance music, FLYING LOTUS is redefining the sound of LA. Flying Lotus is a man of many sides; from the huge sounding collabs and remixes giving indication of the slickest productions you are likely to hear on radio to his high voltage live shows (we saw earlier this year) which are somewhere between the best ever house party DJ and the most crowd-smashing live electronic act you've seen, to this new album proper - 'Los Angeles' - a deep, soulful, intricate album where glints of detail are unearthed to make this opus richer on every listen. Of course, it?s no secret that Lotus is the product of a rich musical lineage and Auntie's Harp serves not only as a collaboration with his majestic aunt (ALICE COLTRANE), but also a more fitting tribute. Testament arrives as the intro to Fly Lo's collaborator GONJA SUFI in all his mage-like splendor. Like DR. DRE & SNOOP DOGG, TIMBALAND & MISSY or BETH GIBBONS & GEOFF BARROW, the pairing of a pioneering producer & entirely distinct vocalist/songwriter is a force to be reckoned with. The feeling is only amplified with the closing opus Infintum. Enveloping vocalist LAURA DARLINGTON in a track that bridges GAINSBOURG/BARDOT territory with BROADCAST and shape-shifting post-modern R&B, it is a sublime bookend to Brainfeeder and serves as the perfect FIN to Los Angeles epic journey.

From note one, there is a feeling of something new and
exciting at play here. Keyboards wobble and wiggle with
mutated funk, skewed rhythms grind underneath, warped samples
play hide-and-seek with the beat- in other words, that "next
level shit" artists are always talking about? This is it.
While the title 1983 may conjure images of parachute pants
and asymmetrical 'dos, the '83 Lotus envisions isn't the
typical retro cheese covered by VH1 specials. This is Blade
Runner, Bambaataa, the Bomb Squad, and Basquiat. This is the
musical future Prince was dreamin' about- forgive us if we go
astray. Just listen to "Orbit Brazil": synths float into
space with melodic optimism, grimed out in a dystopian sheen.
By track's end, you really feel like you're at zero gravity,
peering through your space mask at the sweaty Brasilian
booties bumpin' (it's cause they're listening to Lotus).
And yeah, Lotus is a part of the Coltrane lineage, but don't
write this off as nepotism, cause he ain't riding on anyone's
coattails. But, if you really MUST make the correlation
between A Love Supreme and A Lotus Supreme, dig: If Alice and
John had lived in the era of SP-303s and laptops, they'd be
flirting with the same muse as Lotus is.
Flying Lotus IS a visionary. He is tapping that well of
creative juice that seems to float in the ether for certain
artists every generation, carving his own path through the
wilds of the beat. By the time you read this, Lotus will
already be making the music everyone and their robot will be
biting through 2030. Like most natural talents, though,
Lotus' aspirations are simple: "I just want to keep having
fun."

Los Angeles Wunderkind FLYING LOTUS makes his Warp debut with a distinctively off-kilter fusion of dark electronic soul, rough psych rock, far-flung dancefloor jams & plenty bass. Much has been made of his COLTRANE and DILLA Connections, but 'Reset' serves as both a proper introduction & a tantalizing peek of what to expect from his upcoming Warp full-length next year. Lotus is an achingly natural, imaginative and prolific musician, traits somewhat unsurprising when you consider his LA upbringing as part of the Coltrane family (Alice was his aunt). With a style of production and songwriting which oozes freshness these 6 tracks have been causing a flurry of excitement ever since they touched down within the confines of the Inertia office. Wait til you hear them thunder, wobble and squelch on a big soundsystem.

In his score to LeSean Thomas’ anime series about a Black samurai in medieval Japan, the Los Angeles musician aligns his visual obsessions with his wide-ranging musical instincts.

Flying lotus has always been a huge influenced of mine, but i have to say that this album just takes everything to the next level. This albums just sounds crisp and warm to the ears. One of the reasons i have so much respect for this man is how unique his sound is. You can tell many unique styles influenced this album. He has done an amazing job blending different styles to make this album just pop. Alot of the album sounds like it was produced more like a hip-hop record, but the music itself bounces around from IDM/electronic sounds to free form jazz style feel. Also when i say IDM, im not talking like autechre and v snares stuff at all of course. He seems to use a lot of old school sounds, It almost sounds like he is using a Korg Ms-2000(Even though its a newer synth, you get the point) or something like that for the synth and bass sounds.
Any way, go buy this now. I typically dont buy music, but i bought this on vinyl because both Fly-lo and this album are the shit.
