Today Laufey releases her debut EP Typical of Me. Laufey is a 21 year old Icelandic-Chinese artist who is heavily influenced by jazz and R & B. She recorded her debut single “Street By Street” with peers at Berklee College of Music before it was shut down for COVID. Laufey then started topping the Icelandic charts and earning support from Billie Eilish and Willow Smith.

“‘James’ is about a certain type of guy that I have encountered in my life. It’s always the same pattern – I’ll admire them for a while, then get to know them and learn that I have created a false narrative in my head for who they actually are. James has a huge ego, James is a fool – so I wrote a song about it.”

Laufey is a LA based singer, composer, producer and Muti-instrumentalist whose isongs combined indie and jazz quite well. As an Icelandic Chinese artist grew up with enriched jazz and classic music, she became hooked on the jazz standards of Ella Fitzgerald, etc. Her style of lyrics are quite sentimental, young and modern generation like while the tone and melody are bit vintage.

Beatrice Kristi Ilejay Laus, known professionally as beabadoobee, is a Filipino-English singer and songwriter. From 2018 to 2021, she released five extended plays under the independent label Dirty Hit: Lice, Patched Up, Loveworm, Space Cadet and Our Extended Play.

Laufey Lín Jónsdóttir, known by the mononym Laufey, is an Icelandic singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who became popular in the early 2020s. She describes her musical style, a mixture of jazz pop and bedroom pop, as modern jazz. Laufey participated in The Voice Iceland in 2015.

“Ultimately—and I only discovered this after the whole album was written—this album is about opening yourself up to a lover, or a person, or the entire world, giving them every single part of yourself,” Laufey tells Apple Music about her third album, <i>A Matter of Time</i>. “It’s about acknowledging that it’s just a matter of time until you find out every single part of me.” She began working on the project while touring behind her breakthrough album <i>Bewitched</i> in 2024, inspired by a host of factors—particularly balancing her hectic schedule as an in-demand pop star with falling in love for the first time.

Laufey worked on <i>A Matter of Time</i> with her longtime collaborator Spencer Stewart and new creative partner Aaron Dessner (of The National and Big Red Machine, and a regular collaborator of Taylor Swift’s). “It was that new experience that I was craving for an album,” she says. “I wanted to be so careful for this album about staying true to myself, and staying true to my roots, and staying true to my philosophy, which is ultimately keeping jazz music and classical music alive through my own music. But I was craving a level of speed and shine and newness for this album, and I knew I had to find one partner to work with who would bring that out in me.”
