本作为富野由悠季于1987年在NT杂志连载长达五年的宇宙世纪人气独占小说作品《Gaia Gear》（ガイア・ギア）改编的广播剧作品，本作与《贝托蒂嘉的子嗣》、《闪光的哈萨维》为关联作，小说因复杂的版权原因至今没有再版.
宇宙世纪0203年，由于地球联邦政府的兵权下放，导致旗下秘密警察组织“马哈”拥有强于联邦的实力，其首领比贾恩•达格尔为推行“地球逆殖民计划”，带领马哈宇宙舰队大规模向地球降落，反地球联邦组织【麦塔特隆】的领袖，夏亚•阿兹纳布尔的记忆克隆人“阿弗兰西•夏亚”决定背水一战，于马哈舰队突破大气圈前拦截以战舰“马哈•盖吉兹”为首的马哈舰队.

水は枯渇し、大地は砂漠と化した近未来の地球。少年・乱は、兵士に追われていた銀色の髮の少女・アイラを助ける。彼女は環境破壊を止める巨大生命体「聖母」のカギを握る存在だった。しかし、ほどなく彼女はレジスタンス組織「ハザード」に連行。乱はアイラを助けるべく後を追う。

Dreams begin to haunt Lady Sheru—dreams of her past life as Pirotesse. Her love, Ashram, is being tormented at the hands of the soul of Barbas posing as their former king, Beld of Marmo. Interpreting this as a plea for help, Sheru searches for a way to save him by entering the chaos realm using the Chaos Ring. Meanwhile, Redon and his friends are called to arms again as ancient creatures begin to appear after being sealed away for centuries.
