A maniac terrorizes a town during rainy nights. And exactly on one rainy night a student has a night shift in a 24-hour shop. And exactly on this night the owner of the shop goes to play in a casino, his wife wants to be entertained, a detective is awaiting for a crime to be committed and certainly... the maniac begins hunting.

They go to the south of Russia to take possession of the golden scepter of Count Rumyantsev. A 25-year-old Gypsy car thief lives in a provincial town, the center of which is a precious metal processing plant. 20 years ago, his father died at this factory, allegedly involved in the theft of gold bars. The investigation has slowed down the case, so the Gypsy is eager to find the killer and avenge his father, whom he does not really remember. When the former director of the plant and the unspoken owner of the city Leonid Maksimovich is announced in the city, it is necessary to combine efforts to get to the truth and bring justice — everyone understands it differently.

The series is inspired by the real story of the Angarsk Maniac. A young metropolitan detective, Zhenya (Yulia Snigir, Young Pope), arrives in a small town in the search of a serial killer. The majority of the towns' population do not welcome outsiders, and local authorities deny a maniac is on the loose and refuse to assist Zhenya. However, Zhenya finds one person willing to help, Ivan Krutikhin, a detective and a serial killer.
