本集中主要记录了许多摇滚乐中吉他手的先驱如查克贝瑞、齐柏林飞船合唱团的吉米佩吉和无名英雄詹姆斯波顿等人与吉他的历史渊源。山塔那谈到玩音乐时的不断咒骂、弹奏着《爆发》的范海伦忘我的神情、摇摆唱着乡村摇滚《肯达基的蓝月》的猫王埃尔维斯普里斯莱的自在……都让人心醉神迷。比比金大谈吉他弹奏的技巧、布鲁斯史宾斯汀更将吉他的香味用比喻的方式陈述，透过屏幕，让人嗅到了吉他的气味。

本集以极大的篇幅让观众重返1960年代的美国社会，体验1060年代末期摇滚乐反传统次文化的兴衰。当时的美国不仅反政府也反战，整个社会有着相当反体制的情绪，这个风潮不但反映在电影如《我俩没有明天》、《午夜牛郎》等名片中，也反映在最有普及性和流行性的音乐创作上。其中最为人所津津乐道的便是1969年8月在纽约州的小镇上举办数十万人次的音乐盛会——Woodstock音乐节，这个音乐节完全的反应当时社会的氛围，以及人民的复杂情绪。
此外还可以欣赏到The Grateful Dead、山塔那及Jefferson Airplane同台演出，Janice Joplin、Big Brother和The Holding Company一块热情演唱Ball and Chain，并重温Woodstock的盛况。

Live Aid was a dual-venue concert that was held on 13 July 1985. The event was organized by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure to raise funds for relief of the ongoing Ethiopian famine. Billed as the "global jukebox", the event was held simultaneously in Wembley Stadium in London, England, United Kingdom (attended by 72,000 people) and John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States (attended by about 100,000 people). On the same day, concerts inspired by the initiative happened in other countries, such as Australia and Germany. It was one of the largest-scale satellite link-ups and television broadcasts of all time: an estimated global audience of 1.9 billion, across 150 nations, watched the live broadcast.[2

Never have so few companies controlled so much of the music played on the radio and for sale at retail stores. At the same time, there are more bands and more ways to discover their music than ever. Music seems to have split in two - the homogenous corporate product that is spoonfed to consumers and the diverse independent music that finds devoted fans online and at clubs across the country.
BEFORE THE MUSIC DIES tell a story of American music at this precarious moment. Filmmakers Andrew Shapter and Joel Rasmussen traveled the country, hoping to understand why mainstream music seems so packaged and repetitive, and whether corporations really had the power to silence musical innovation. The answers they found on this journey–ultimately, the promise that the future holds–are what makes BEFORE THE MUSIC DIES both riveting and exhilarating.

艾力克莱普顿于1999年6月30日在纽约麦迪逊广场花园(MADISON SQUARE GARDEN, NEW YORK CITY)所举办了一场定名为「Eric Clapton & Friends In Concert」的慈善演唱会，这是为Crossroads Centre所举办的义演募捐活动。Crossroads Centre是艾力克莱普顿创设在Antiqua的非营利性收容机构，为有酒瘾及毒瘾的人提供治疗。
首先是克莱普顿的访谈前言，接下来就是收录在「From The Cradle」中，由蓝调巨人Willie Dixon所写的 "Hoochie Coochie Man" ，在 "River Of Tears" 之后，克莱普顿开始介绍当晚第一位特别来宾—著名的萨克斯风手戴维山朋(David Sanborn)，他不仅演奏一首自己所写的 "Going Down Slow" 也是整晚伴奏乐团中的一员。第二位出场的特别来宾是葛莱美奖得主雪瑞儿可洛(Sheryl Crow)，她一共表演三首歌，其中和艾力克合唱的 "Little Wing" 是已逝的吉米亨德里克斯招牌曲之一。近年来走红的黑人女歌手玛丽布莱姬(Mary J. Blige)也是来宾名单之一，在她的两首节奏与蓝调歌曲之后，克莱普顿放下电吉他，仿MTV Unplugged的阵式演唱了大家相当熟悉的 "Tears In Heaven" 、 "Change The World" 。
演唱会进入后段，艾力克的招牌曲、为爱慕的对象所写的 "Layla" 响遍全场，紧接着最后一位来宾-民谣教父巴布迪伦出场，老而弥坚的迪伦口齿不清的唱着 "Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right" 时依然掌声不断。演唱会在迪伦与艾力克合唱蓝调之根Robert Johnson的 "Crossroads" 声中结束，不过放心，还没完，安可曲是艾力克在奶油合唱团(Cream)时代的经典曲 "Sunshine Of Your Love" ，在吉他绕梁中结束这场精彩义唱会

本纪录片完成于吉米罕醉克斯早逝的三年后。本片可作为当时传记片的模板参考，但其中一些数据也需依历史考究再做修正。电影涵括了1967年吉米罕醉克斯于马昆俱乐部的演出，到1970年第三届怀特岛音乐节，他最后一场演唱会的画面。影片中也可看到他于1967年蒙特利音乐节跪在舞台上点火燃烧他的吉他、1969年以不可思议的电吉他技巧演奏美国国歌、1969跨1970年的东费尔摩音乐节新年之夜演出、1970年在加州柏克莱小区剧院摇滚大爆走……等多个经典现场表演实况。
迷幻六零末尾的药物迷失在本片里显得意外迷人。本片混合了旧影像和新纪录的片段，亦可见与吉米罕醉克斯同时代的音乐名人，如：艾瑞克克莱普顿、路瑞德、米契米切尔、米克杰格、彼特汤森、小理察等人是如何谈论他的珍贵访谈。

一切的源头应该追朔到由于内战与连年乾旱爆发大饥荒的非洲古老的艾塞俄比亚. 在1984年圣诞节前原 Boomtown Rates 合唱团的团员、也是爱尔兰知名摇滚歌手 Bob Geldof 与英籍电子团Ultravox 的 Midge Ure 合写一首 "Do They Know It\'s Christmas" 并召集了当红的英籍歌手与团体如保罗。杨、文化俱乐部(主唱乔治男孩)、杜兰杜兰合唱团、史汀…组成临时超级团体 Band Aid 演唱，期望能募款七万五千英镑来帮助这些难民。

第一幕

1940年，二戰正進行得如火如荼，獲加隊長被擄走成戰俘。("Overture")他生存機會渺亡的消息傳回家中，("Captain Walker")其妻卻於下年誕下二人之兒子湯美。("It's a Boy")然而獲加隊長卻沒死，回家後發現其妻與情人及四歲的湯美正慶祝二十一歲生日，("Twenty-One")獲加太太的情人和獲加隊長爭執時被誤殺，一切都被湯美在鏡中看到了，獲加夫婦要湯美替此事隱暪　－　可湯美卻已經變成一個完全自閉的孩子了。("What About the Boy")此時充當說書人成長後的湯美出來，("Amazing Journey")並帶我們到醫院去看湯美所做一切無用的測試。("Sparks")

聖誕節時，十歲的湯美似乎對伯父厄尼的法國號有點回應，("Christmas")長大後的湯美出來和他交流。("See Me, Feel Me")獲加夫婦因事要出外，不放心地把湯美交給厄尼保管，("Do You Think It's Alright")然而厄尼趁二人不在性侵犯了完全沒有反應的湯美。("Fiddle About")湯美下一位保管人基雲表哥也常常欺負他，("Cousin Kevin")卻發現湯美打彈珠機簡直出神入化，("Sensation")可是之後做的檢查卻找不出所以然來。("Sparks (reprise)")獲加隊長聽信兩個騙子，("Eyesight to the Blind")把湯美交給街頭醫生，卻發現原來是個妓女。("Acid Queen")1958年，湯美17歲，打彈珠機依然那麼厲害，成為鄰里及眾人口中的神話。("Pinball Wizard")

第二幕

湯美已經成為眾人偶像，("Underture")獲加父婦仍未放棄，("There's a Doctor")繼續尋找藥方。("Go To the Mirror/Listening to You")這邊失敗的同時眾人也想跟他說話，("Tommy, Can You Hear Me?")可就是沒有辦法。獲加父婦心灰得很，("I Believe My Own Eyes")獲加太太看見湯美一整天就是望著鏡子發呆而無視二人努力突然怒氣上升，一下把鏡子打碎，("Smash the Mirror")神奇地，湯美便這樣突然痊癒了(I'm Free)，此新聞立即街知巷聞。("Miracle Cure")湯美卻完全沉醉在外，對獲加夫婦甚麼冷漠。("Pinball Wizard (reprise)")

厄尼想趁此撈一筆，便舉辦了一個夏令營。("Tommy's Holiday Camp")莎莉被湯美狠狠推開，("Sally Simpson")突然湯美良心發現，並帶所有人進去。("Welcome")莎莉問如何才能變成湯美那麼棒，("Sally Simpson's Question")然而湯美突然有所感觸，要她做回自己。眾人不滿他們的英雄不肯"拯救"他們，紛紛離去。("We're Not Going to Take It")惘然若失的湯美聽到四歲時的自己在呼喚他，("See Me, Feel Me")他這時向家人步去，逐一擁抱他們。他學會了愛，學會了包容，學會了家庭的真正意義。("Listening to You")

大导演马丁·西科塞斯在制作鲍勃·迪伦、滚石乐队的纪录片之后，他将目光转向了乔治·哈里逊，这位一直被约翰·列侬光芒掩盖的披头士的吉他手。本片片长达3个半小时，采访了Eric Clapton、特里·吉列姆、Eric Idle, George Martin, 保罗·麦卡特尼, 小野洋子、林格·斯塔尔等诸多牛人，挖掘了哈里逊的人生与职业生涯，包括后来单飞，做电影制片、搞慈善等等。
