Aram, a young man from Marseille of Armenian origin, blows up the Turkish ambassador's car in Paris. Gilles, a young cyclist who was passing at that precise moment, is seriously injured. Les Damnés de la Commune nous plongent dans la révolution parisienne de 1871, avec les mots et les images de l’époque. Cent cinquante ans après leur publication, les gravures prennent vie. Elles sont l’unique matière de ce film d’animation qui donne à voir l’époque telle qu’elle se voyait elle-même.
On découvre la Commune à hauteur femme, à travers le témoignage de Victorine, qui s’engage à cœur perdu dans la révolution. On tremble avec elle, face aux soldats qui s’apprêtent à tirer sur la foule de Montmartre, le 18 mars 1871. On vibre, à ses côtés au milieu de ce peuple qui proclame la Commune sur le parvis de l’Hôtel de Ville, le 28 mars. On s’indigne de ce gouvernement réfugié à Versailles qui refuse de reconnaître les élections et bombarde Paris. On s’enthousiasme avec ces femmes qui se réunissent le soir dans les églises occupées et appellent à défendre la ville et la révolution. On est sidéré par les massacres méthodiques commis par les versaillais durant la Semaine sanglante. On est bouleversé par ces femmes et ces hommes qui ont résisté jusqu’au bout au nom d’un idéal qu’ils pensaient plus grand que leurs propres vies.
Ils ont eu soixante-douze jours pour renverser l’histoire. L’histoire les a emportés. Ce film raconte l’épopée des communards, celle des damnés de la Commune.
At the end of the 1860s, Paris was rumbling. In the liberal Second Empire, Napoleon III commissioned Prefect Haussmann to modernize the capital and turn it into a paradise for the upper middle class. While poverty and rents increased, popular protest grew. To assert his authority, the emperor tried to divert the social anger against an external enemy and declared war on Prussia. But the conflict turned into a fiasco. On September 3, 1870, Napoleon III was taken prisoner. The empire collapsed, the Republic was proclaimed and the provisional government, installed in Bordeaux, decided to negotiate peace with the Prussians. In the besieged capital, the inhabitants refused to surrender.

Follows Sara, head of the Toulouse police narcotics squad, who is forced to collaborate with Richard, the head of the local criminal police, to stop a go-fast between Spain and France and find the murderer linked to the case.

塞德里克·克拉皮奇意在复活黑色电影，但绝不循规蹈矩，片中——特别是前半段——有许多喜剧元素，最搞笑的一段是这样的：小团伙中某中年男子的初中生儿子整天逃学“出来混”，中年强盗就邀请大哥一起教训儿子，中年强盗和强盗头子苦口婆心现身说法地说了半天，小流氓不为所动。两个强盗没辙，叫人结帐，两人抢着付账，推来挡去。那个还没长胡子的小屁孩站了起来，从兜里掏出一大叠欧元，数了几张放在桌上，跟强盗头子握手，说：“见到你很荣幸。我先走了。”说完扬长而去。剩下两个大强盗面面相觑，表情绝望。
