在意大利恐怖电影中，可能再也找不到比米歇尔·索伊的作品影响更广、承继更多的了，他的作品能保证意大利恐怖电影在下个千年仍有一席之地。本片是对神怪电影颇有价值的补充，同样也是意大利电影哥特式风格的回归。影片开始是一个发生在过去的序幕，圣殿骑士长惩罚犯有巫术罪的村民，并在埋葬他们尸体的大坑上建造了一所教堂。之后故事跳到现今，一位历史学家发现了教堂的秘密，受害者的灵魂开始操控他，对抗教会和世人。

学者（弗兰克·芬莱 Frank Finlay 饰）娶了一个和自己年龄相差甚大的美艳妻子（斯蒂芬尼娅·桑德雷莉 Stefania Sandrelli 饰），因为担心自己无法满足年轻的妻子，学者感到十分的困扰。长久以来，学者有着记日记的习惯，在日记里，学者详细记录了自己和妻子共享鱼水之欢的过程，甚至意淫起了妻子与女婿的奸情，从中获得嫉妒带来的快感。很快，学者的日记被妻子发现，在羞愧和愤怒中，妻子决定用实际行动来报复丈夫的愚蠢。于是，一个家庭里，两个人，两本日记，记载了人性里的欲望和黑暗。然而，事情并没有就此结束，在欲望的漩涡里越陷越深的学者竟然开始积极的撮合起了妻子和女婿，不仅将妻子大方的献给女婿，并且为两人的私会制造各种时机 ……

A troupe of struggling stage actors is rehearsing for a small-town production of a play. Everything seems to be as it should until one of the cast members turns up dead. In a panic, the others try to get out, only to find they are now locked in the theater with the killer! Which one of them committed the murder, and who will get out alive?

The film fits into that whole 'hell on earth' "genre" which was made popular by Lucio Fulci's The Beyond in 1981. The plot focuses on a bunch of cave explorers that find a gate to hell under the Earth's crust, with disastrous(ly boring) results. Seriously, this has to be one of the very worst films of its kind - there's absolutely NOTHING of interest in the whole film. Not even the special effects offer any entertainment...not that the film is particularly gory anyway. It really does just drone on for the entire torturous running time and there's absolutely no reason to bother tracking this dross down.

In a futuristic society, an old man tells the legend of a strange medal to two children. In flashback, we learn that after a nuclear catastrophe, two teenagers were living in an artificial paradise, maintained by electronic means, and once decide to leave that shelter and escape using that same medal - a mini video-disc - in search of outer-space freedom.
