Charles Manson was a songwriter and recording artist in the 1960s and wrote songs for the Beach Boys, Buffalo Springfield and other musical ensembles. He recorded this project in September 1984 on a portable home device using a single microphone. The material is mostly alternative folk & country with both cover versions of country classics and also lots of original material. Released as an online edition in Flac format by White Devil Records.

Charles Manson visited New York in the early `60s with his guitar and his songs in a vain search for recognition. In Beverly Hills, famous musicians gave him use of their studio to produce this album, featuring vocal backup from the women of the "family." During a stay in a San Francisco prison, he met a fellow inmate, and gave him the album to release. While Manson was being tried and convicted of participation in the murder spree, the government attempted to discredit the hippie movement by citing him as an example, hoping to defuse the rising tide of anger among the population over the war in Vietnam. Because his songs were considered musically and historically significant, this record was released briefly by ESP-Disk' in 1974, and is now being reissued. All royalties are paid to the son of one of the victims, who obtained a judgment against Manson.

Taught by fellow inmate and legendary Ma Barker Gang heavy Alvin "Creepy" Karpis, Manson was a quick study. By the time of his release in 1967 (some six years after his first lesson from Karpis), Manson wandered into the streets of San Francisco already quite the accomplished singer and songwriter.
