The Daydream Library Series record label has confirmed Thurston’s new full length album Flow Critical Lucidity. The album will arrive in stores on September 20, 2024. Fans of Sonic Youth & Thurston Moore will be delighted to learn that all tracks from the album will be released via vinyl, compact disc & cassette.
Thurston Moore’s forthcoming album, FLOW CRITICAL LUCIDITY is his ninth solo recording. Some of the songs were written & arranged in Europe and The United Kingdom and include lyrical references to their environments and inspired by nature, lucid dreaming, modern dance and Isadora Duncan. The album was arranged at La Becque in Switzerland and recorded at Total Refreshment Studios in London in 2022, and mixed at Hermitage Studios in London with Margo Broom in 2023.
Flow Critical Lucidity comes from a lyric in the single ‘Sans Limites’ and the album sleeve cover art features Jamie Nares’ ‘Samurai Walkman’ — a helmet befitted with tuning forks. Jamie Nares (born in Great Britain) is a lifelong friend of Thurston Moore from his New York No Wave days and the two have often collaborated in art & music.
SINGLES released surrounding the release of the album: In 2023 Thurston released two singles: the energetic Isadora Duncan inspired ‘Isadora’ with a music video starring Sky Ferreira. ‘Hypnogram’ which the press called “one of the most intensely cerebral cuts Moore has ever released, he blends the more melodic moments of his former band with the layered, heady flourishes of his bassist Deb Googe’s main band, My Bloody Valentine.
Emphatically conveying the feeling of dreams, the new material has fans excited for what the American has in store with his next album.” In April of 2024 Thurston shared the stirring Earth Day anthem ‘Rewilding’. The musician delivered chilling lines as he ruminated on the removal of the human hand from nature, “…Don’t stir anything…”. Moore sang about renewal, and a period for friends of the Earth to sleep and realise a natural way by “coralmorphologically dreaming”. The musician said the U.K.’s rewilding movement aspires to reduce human influence on ecosystems.

Diskaholics Anonymous Trio is Thurston Moore and Jim O’Rourke from Sonic Youth and the Swedish free jazz icon Mats Gustafsson. The trio released their first self titled album in 2001 on Crazy Wisdom/Universal. Weapons of Ass Destruction, their second album, is released worldwide on Smalltown Superjazzz. DA Trio creates a pulsing, massive and monumental sound. Free-jazz, noise, electronic ambience, Tony Conrad 60`s style minimalism, drone music and punk all mixed. The result of these three titans clashing together is an intense blow-out. Raw, grandiose and brutally beautiful.

This is NYC avant garde convergence at its finest. The idea of a meeting between Yoko Ono, Kim Gordon & Thurston Moore is so perfect, so obvious, the only shock is that it didn't happen earlier. Recorded in 2011 at Manhattan's Sear Sound, the album features lead vocals by Yoko, with backing vocals & guitars by Kim & Thurston. It's a wild collision of song-form, poetics, free-rock & classic glossolalic ecstasy. Yoko has not allowed herself to sound this raw since the earliest recordings of the Plastic Ono Band. There's a remarkably empathic & comfortable quality to the sound. The 3 communicate as though they'd been playing together forever.

Thurston Joseph Moore is an American musician best known as a member of Sonic Youth. He has also participated in many solo and group collaborations outside Sonic Youth, as well as running the Ecstatic Peace! record label.

After many years of planning, this is the result of the much-talked-about "dream guitars" project from Nels Cline (leader of the Nels Cline Trio and the Nels Cline Singers, and who has worked with Mike Watt, the Geraldine Fibbers, Tim Berne, Julius Hemphill, and many others) and Thurston Moore (best known as guitarist and singer for Sonic Youth). Recorded on December 30, 1996 (the same day they played live at Rhino Records, the results of which make up the In-Store CD), Pillow Wand is the first studio collaboration between two of the most innovative guitarists around. Most pieces feature quiet layered strumming and build slowly to their resolution. Packaged in a fold-over jacket with inner sleeve (like a mini gatefold record).

Former Sonic Youth leader Thurston Moore will release his latest solo album, The Best Day, on October 21st via Matador Records. In anticipation, the album is streaming in full at NPR.org.
Moore recorded the follow-up to 2011’s Demolished alongside Sonic Youth drummer Steve Shelley, My Bloody Valentine bassist Debbie Googe, and UK musician James Sedwards. Aptly dubbed The Thurston Moore Band, those three musicians will also accompany him on the road for dates in both Europe and America.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Moore discussed how he assembled such an all-star line-up:
When I moved here (London), one of the first places I lived was in this shared flat, and there were all musicians there. One of them was this guitarist who was teaching kids how to play Led Zeppelin riffs. I was really kind of intrigued by that. When I met him he was this really sweet, gentle Englishman, James Sedwards. I just would talk about music with him late into the night. And he’s really into high-technique guitar playing, which is something I don’t really have much interest in. But at the same time, his favorite bands are the Fall and My Bloody Valentine and Sonic Youth, and things like this. He likes more of that rough, marginalized sound [laughs]. But also, he’s a total shredder.
According to a press release, The Best Day “radiates with both his signature thrashing electric guitars as well as blissful 12-string acoustic ballads. The songs range from opener ‘Speak to the Wild’, a Crazy Horse-like paean to anti-authority and activism, to ‘Vocabularies’, a paean to a new realization of language which includes ALL people, including transgender.”
The album is preceded by two singles, “Detonation” and its title track.

Keiji Haino is a Japanese musician and singer-songwriter whose work has included rock, free improvisation, noise music, percussion, psychedelic music, minimalism and drone music. He has been active since the 1970s and continues to record regularly and in new styles.

For the most part, Thurston Moore's first solo endeavor since 1995's Psychic Hearts will allow the noise police to stay away. The Sonic Youth ringleader goes at it acoustically, far from his customary cacophonic experimentation, forming a venturesome trio with the Fleeting Skies' Samara Lubelski (violin) and SY's Steve Shelly (drums) and giving his lyrical verve the latitude it deserves. There's a euphonious, near pop-like palpability to tracks like "Frozen Guitar," "Fri/end," and "Honest James," the latter spurred on by the vocals of Christina Carter (The Charalambides) and a guitar intro pawned from the Byrds' "Feel a Whole Lot Better." The isolation of the quieter songs allows Moore's voice to flicker on lines such as "The pearl meets light/And the light gets lost" in the numbing "Silver Blue," or in "The Shape Is in a Trance," where he reveals "I'm not the one they called/But I showed up anyway." So did Dinosaur Jr's J. Mascis, whose notorious guitar heightens the volume on matching instrumentals: the daunting "American Coffin" and the six-minute title song, which ends bluntly before a final hidden track featuring a 13-year-old Moore making inordinate sounds with scissors, coins, and an aerosol can. --Scott Holter
