Jarabo era un vividor. El romance que mantuvo con una inglesa casada solo les creó problemas a ambos: puso en peligro el matrimonio de ella, y él se arruinó, después de haber gastado una fortuna en hoteles, cenas y regalos. Asfixiado por la falta de dinero, Jarabo le había pedido a ella un anillo de brillantes que inmediatamente había empeñado. Pero ella, la única mujer a quien había querido, le reclamó la joya, alegando que se trataba de un regalo de su marido. Para recuperarla, Jarabo elige el peor de los caminos.
