After directing two documentaries on Fidel Castro in 2002 ("Comandante") and 2003 ("Looking for Fidel"), filmmaker Oliver Stone returned to interview Castro in 2009 for the first in-depth conversation since Castro had stepped down as president and recovered from colon surgery. In this new film, Castro is interviewed at home, surrounded by his family. The stimulating conversation is friendly and casual, as Castro offers his perspective on current leaders such as President Barack Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, as well as controversial events such as the coup in Honduras, upheaval in Iran, and the collapse of the Soviet Union's effect on the Cuban economic model. Castro also reflects on some of the defining moments of his life during the last 50 years, including John F. Kennedy's assassination and the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Oliver Stone presents a tribute to a friend one year after his death, the friend in question was the Venezuelan leader, Hugo Chávez. The documentary covers the time Stone and Chávez spent while making "South of the Border", when they developed a close relationship; and the testimonies from South America leaders and people close to Chávez to talk about their views on the man and the politician and share some personal stories they had with him.

Featured on the DVD "first works". The film shows a man trying to forget his Vietnam Memories by throwing his war-memorabilia (photos, medals) away. Through the story mixed are fragments he shot while stationed in Vietnam. This gives the film some debt.
The movie was shot while he was studying at NYU, a teacher there convinced him to look into his own experience's for making a good film. Being a Vietnam veteran it was obvious he chose that as a subject. The theme about a veteran trying to cope with his war experiences is a subject that comes back in several of his later movies, particularly in Born on the 4th of July.
It is a pretty good first and worth watching.
