Matilda the Musical is an Olivier Award-winning musical written by Dennis Kelly, with music and lyrics by Tim Minchin. It is based on the children's novel of the same name by Roald Dahl. Produced by the Royal Shakespeare Company, the musical had a debut run in Stratford for twelve weeks, beginning in November 2010 and running through January 2011. It received its West End premiere on 24 November 2011 at the Cambridge Theatre. Matilda has received widespread critical acclaim, fast becoming one of the most successful British musicals in modern history. The show won seven Olivier Awards including Best New Musical, at the 2012 ceremony - the most awards ever won by a single show.

Tim Minchin has fast become not just one of the biggest names in Australian comedy but also close to the biggest theatrical drawcard in the country. After winning the Perrier Award for Best Newcomer at Edinburgh Fringe, he went on to regularly perform at festivals including Just For Laughs Festival & HBO Comedy Festival, selling out shows across Australia, the UK & now the US. Locally his television appearances have included Spicks and Specks, Good News Week & recently Adam Hills In Gordon Street Tonight. Tim Minchin & The Heritage Orchestra was recorded at the Manchester Arena in 2010 and presents some of his most recognized tracks in with amazing arrangements from the renowned Heritage Orchestra, who have collaborated with the likes of UNKLE, Mike Patton, Jamie Cullum & the recent Blade Runner score for Massive Attack's Meltdown Festival

Yep, it’s as exciting as it seems! Tim will be recording a new CD at his gig on Tuesday at the o2 in London, featuring the 55-piece Heritage Orchestra and a couple of others.
The deluxe double CD is available to pre-order online, as well as being available to buy immediately after the o2 gig itself! Yes, you did read that correctly.
The CD will hopefully also be available to buy on the subsequent UK tour dates as well, if you don’t want to wait for it to be posted. That said though, there will also be a digital download version available, which will also cut out your postage time too!
And for those not in the UK, yes it can be shipped internationally.
While all this is very exciting, if you are going to a forthcoming show, I’d hold off buying this CD until you’ve seen it as, in my experience, the songs are always better seen live!
Update: The o2 live recording was a limited run and has now sold out.

It feels like this second single has been a long time coming! It’s a mammoth track, both temporally and sonically. Which is a wanky way of saying it’s bloody long and bloody loud. Defo recommend listening to it with a big ol’ set of headphones or some kick-arse speakers and the volume turned up.
The album, Apart Together, is due out later this year.
