Legendary director and musician David Lynch is readying his second solo LP following 2011's Crazy Clown Time. The album is called The Big Dream, and it's out July 15 in Europe via Sunday Best and July 16 in the U.S. via Sacred Bones.
The Big Dream features 11 original songs, plus a cover of Bob Dylan's "The Ballad of Hollis Brown". In a press release, Lynch described the music of the album as "modern blues" and said, "Most of the songs start out as a type of blues jam and then we go sideways from there. What comes out is a hybrid, modernized form of low-down blues."
The vinyl edition of the album will come with a bonus 7", which will feature the Lykke Li track on the A-side and an etching hand-inscribed by Lynch on the B-side. The digital version will contain the Lykke Li track as well. Lynch said of Lykke Li in a press release, "She brought her own style to this song, which has a doo-wop sort of thing going on, but in a way it’s far-removed from the 50s."

BlueBob is a music idea based on the pounding machinery of the smokestack industry & the raw amplified birth of rock & roll. The music is inspired by machines, fire, smoke & electricity. By submerging itself in the ever reverberating golden past, Blue Bob is trying to poke forward. Three videos are planned from the album. Solitude. 2002.

It is with great pride that Sacred Bones Records present its official, expanded, re-release of the soundtrack to David Lynch's landmark 1977 film, Eraserhead. The bonus song "Pete's Boogie" is a newly discovered Peter Ivers recording taken from the original audio tapes and mixed by Lynch himself. It was previously only available on the long out of print limited edition LP.

In early 2007, David Lynch was the subject of a retrospective art exhibition at Paris' Fondation Cartier pour l'art contemporain. Evocatively titled The Air is on Fire, it was notable for being the first major comprehensive exhibition of the avant-garde director's paintings, photographs and drawings. It wasn't strictly a visual affair; throughout the entire gallery's two floors and four rooms, a pervasive, interactive soundscape escorted viewers through the work. That soundscape, which shares the name of the exhibition, was composed by Lynch and his collaborator, Dean Hurley, and it's being issued for the first time on vinyl by Sacred Bones Records as a special Record Store Day release.

‘The Big Dream‘ sees Lynch returning to primary songwriting and performance duties, writing 11 out of the album’s 12 tracks. Also included in the lineup is Lynch’s signature take on the Bob Dylan folk classic ‘The Ballad of Hollis Brown’. ‘The Big Dream’ was recorded over several months at Lynch‘s own Asymmetrical Studio with engineer Dean Hurley, who also contributes production and instrumentation to the album.

Describing his style of music as “modern blues“, Lynch says the songwriting process for his new album was similar to his debut. “Most of the songs start out as a type of blues jam and then we go sideways from there. What comes out is a hybrid, modernized form of low-down blues.”

“The love of experimenting with sound and music is what was driving this boat,” explained the self-taught ‘non-musician’. “All of the songs on the album started as a jam. The jams eventually found a form and lyrics appeared.”

Lynch recorded Crazy Clown Time over several months at his own Asymmetrical Studio with engineer Dean Hurley, who contributes guitar and drums to several songs. The recording process, Lynch recalls, was filled with happy creative accidents. “There were so many accidents; this album should be in the hospital.”

The result is a collection of dark songs Lynch has described as “modern blues.” Filled with foreboding soundscapes, hypnotic rhythms and enigmatic lyrics, Crazy Clown Time will surely resonate with fans of Lynch’s films, but should also appeal to listeners who appreciate gloriously daring and quirky pop music.

Issued in a heavy cardboard sleeve including a 16 pages book.
