西部开拓史（How the West Was Won）是一部1962年的史诗型式西部片。时间设定为1839年至1889年。情节是拓荒者普莱史考特一家人四代的故事，旁及各相关人事物；从中呈现半个世纪的美国西部历史。此片气势雄浑壮阔，编剧、取景、摄影、配乐、音效、导演、演员 阵容，各方面俱臻上乘水平。全片包括5个部分：《急流》、《平原》、《非法之徒》，由亨利·海瑟威执导；《南北战争》由约翰·福特导演；《铁路》由乔治·马歇尔执导。
故事讲述一家三代在各种时代背景下的艰难曲折，通过这个家庭从19世纪早期到1880年代半个世纪的迁徙经历，描述美国西部历史。他们从纽约出发，经历了内战，淘金热，路遇印第安人和西南部的流放者，经历各种艰难险阻，终于到达西部，并联合其他开拓者在平原上修建了铁路，把法律与正义也带到了边疆。

Air Force Sgt. Joe Fitzpatrick meets and marries a beautiful model, Maggie Putnam, on the eve of being shipped off to Spain. When the new Mrs. Fitzpatrick waits to join her husband, she promises him in a letter "the most wonderful surprise that could happen to two people." Joe naturally assumes that she's pregnant, but the surprise turns out to be a fabulous new car that he won in a raffle. His new bride and car win him the scorn and jealousy of Spain's most famous toreador, not to mention the suspicions of his commanding officer.

Buck Rogers and Buddy Wade are in the middle of a trans-polar dirigible flight when they are caught in a blizzard and crash. Buddy then releases a special gas to keep them in suspended animation until a rescue party can arrive. However, an avalanche covers the craft and the two are in suspended animation for 500 years. When they are found, they awake to find out that the world has been taken over by the outlaw army of Killer Kane. Along with Lieutenant Wilma Deering, Buck and Buddy join in the fight to overthrow Kane and with the help of Prince Tallen of Saturn and his forces, they eventually do and Earth is free of Kane's grip.

本片讲述在1868年航运界传言南海中有海怪破坏船只，各国政府被迫派遣军舰维护航道安全，及调查海怪真伪。不料调查舰被不明怪物撞沉，只有阿洛亚斯教授、助手康索及鱼叉手尼德蓝被鹦鹉螺核子潜艇救起。该船由尼莫舰长指挥，对运载军火船舰均予击沉。尼莫敬重阿洛亚斯之成就，将其视为上宾。潜艇要返回瓦康尼亚基地，中途到深海探索海底世界，此处是该船粮食之主要来源。教授为其科技动力来自海底貂殖的技术惊叹不已，但尼德蓝一心想逃跑，却在荒岛中被食人族逐出。他又查出基地位置，用瓶子装信向外通知。到达瓦康尼岛时，军舰已围住该基地。尼莫破坏基地，引起核子爆炸，尼莫亦中弹命危，临死前将鹦鹉螺号驶入海底坟场加以破坏。

On an airliner bound for Hong Kong, Tony, a career crook who deals in stolen diamonds, agonizes over whether he should stick with his girlfriend or pursue Pamela, an intriguing novelist with whom he's instantly infatuated. Viewing Tony's dastardly deeds as great material for her new book, Pamela gladly encourages him to continue his criminal behavior.

A young gangster in 1920's New York quickly rises through the ranks of the mob, then sets up his own murder-for-hire organization. When he starts kidnapping other mobsters for ransom, the New York gangs band together for revenge.

A Capone-like racketeer named Anderson, who after being chased out of one town by the authorities immediately sets up shop in another. Unable to get any tangible evidence against Anderson, DA Wayne orders his assistant Carter to dig up some dirt on the gangster boss. To do this, Carter pretends to turned crooked, joining Anderson's gang in order to accumulate evidence. Alas, Carter's girl friend Patricia knows nothing of her boyfriend's subterfuge, and she suspects the worst.
