Jack Cooper visits his late wife’s hometown for Christmas and gets more than he bargained for, when his determined daughter decides to match him up with a charming local shop owner.

Tony and Tina are excited to get married but they dread having the ceremony. Tina's mother and Tony's father used to be an item and neither parent has gotten over their bitter breakup. As everyone comes together to help plan the event, the parents cannot stop bickering and they are constantly at each other's throat. Adding to their woes are an eccentric photographer, a stubborn priest, unhappy bridesmaids and hung over groomsmen.

嘀、噠、嘀、噠...莊的三十歲生日快到了，他正在為音樂劇的初讀而緊張。("30/90")他有兩個最好朋友：原本是演員現在成了成功生意人的男同性戀者米高；以及莊的女朋友，夢想是當一個舞蹈教師的舞者蘇珊。她剛好來到安慰莊，("Green Green Dress")卻也帶來她想搬到紐約以外的地方的消息；同時米高要讓他進入公司。兩者莊都不喜歡，("Johnny Can't Decide")然而現在他在咖啡店當侍應也不開心到那裡去。("Sunday")米高成功說服莊去參加面試，("No More")另一邊廂莊的姊姊答應找一些人來他音樂劇的初讀，這讓莊不願離去而跟女友鬧翻。("Therapy")莊因為不能選擇，結果在米高的公司亂搞一通，米高批評他即使有夢想也得跟生活妥協。("Real Life")

第二幕

回到音樂劇的初讀，莊遇見演員卡歷莎(也是由飾蘇珊的演員飾演)，並對有人跟他一樣對舞台有夢想而高興。("Sugar")回到家裡蘇珊要去馬薩堪斯州教舞，莊不想阻止她找尋夢想，又不想她走。("See Her Smile")無論如何，初讀還是開始了。蘇珊來了，米高來了，莊父親艾爾來了，莊的經理人來了。還有一個叫Stephen Sondheim的人。卡歷莎的表演非常不錯，("Come to Your Senses")雖然獲得掌聲，卻沒有人願意製作這套音樂劇。莊找米高訴苦，卻得知了米高身染愛滋的消息。("Why")幾番思量後他終於知道人生匆匆，而他只想寫音樂劇。派對上，莊與米高、蘇珊慶祝。他收到了Stephen Sondheim約他吃午餐的消息。終於他有決定了，走到鋼琴前彈奏著。("Louder Than Words")時鐘仍然嘀噠地響...他三十歲了。
