ℍ𝕆𝕆ℙ𝕋𝕆𝔹𝔼ℝ 𝔼𝕃𝔼𝕍𝔼ℕ ℕ𝕀𝔾ℍ𝕋 𝕋ℍ𝕀ℝ𝕋𝔼𝔼ℕ: Watched the "Assembly Cut" from the 2003 "Quadrilogy" box set for this one, which I hadn't sat down to watch previously. The extra length (nearly 30 mins of additional/alternate footage, including a totally different initial "burster" scene) gives it the feeling more of one of Fincher's subsequent slow-paced murder procedurals than the slam-bang Cameron action movie it had to follow. Appreciated the casting a lot more this time around, now that I've gotten to know a lot more British character actors of the time and consequently found them less interchangeable than in previous viewings. It's kind of a shame that Charles Dance doesn't stick around longer, but it's on-theme for the film's general "don't get too attached" approach. Also his early departure makes room for Charles S. Dutton's character to truly pop as maybe the single best survival-buddy that Ripley ever had.
