HOOPTOBER 3.0 NIGHT THREE: + 2024 ANTI-CRITERION CHALLENGE #23: annie’s b-movies for the GIRLS Another one that seems more "horror-adjacent" than horror, by virtue of director Fred Olen Ray and the always welcome onscreen presence of scream-queen Brinke Stevens, even if the slasher/murder-mystery plot feels somewhat superfluous to the silly sexcapades and not-especially-inspired satire of low-budget filmmaking. As a final role for aging Russ Meyer star Edy Williams (who seemingly retired after this one), a lot of the normal cheeky/sexy tropes of the late-nite comedy genre come across as somewhere between obligatory and sad. Williams is very clearly still game for hijinks like changing clothes in the back of a moving convertible in full view of the residents of Beverly Hills, but at the same time her performance feels checked out in a way that suggests she's under the influence at least one substance, if not more.
