MANNVANUARY DEUX #11: This was a far grimmer movie than I had expected going in, and the slowly dawning realization that it's not just Eastwood that's playing the antihero, but sort of every character in the movie, made this one less of a fun watch than I was hoping for. I admire Eastwood's moxie in taking his rough-and-tumble image from the Leone films and really rubbing the audience's nose in the truth of a character like that. But on the other hand, I really wish he'd resisted the temptation to do the supernatural twist towards the end, because I feel like it sort of validated the vengeance-based morality that it was seemingly trying to question.
