A surefire hit with anyone who's gone through life feeling alone and out of place. The movie focuses less on the depression that normally comes along with this, and instead puts the emphasis on how sometimes we just get fed up with everybody and everything. In this movie the characters actually decide to take a stand and there are plenty of laughs along the way. Lynskey and Wood are excellently cast. They work well together and are able to deliver the movie's almost deadpan sense of humor. They are also both so incredibly likable and are fantastic at portraying their character's idiosyncrasies. Essentially they are the perfect oddballs. The film's shocking and brutal violence is incredibly well done. First time director Macon Blair nails it. The tension definitely makes the movie a thriller, but the violence is right from a horror movie. A difficult combination that Blair nails. Probably due to his work with Jeremy Saulnier (Green Room). It's just an all around fantastic movie. One that's well-written with excellent characters, deceptively hilarious, and just the right amount of violent. The results are one of Netflix's best exclusives and a stunning introduction to Macon Blair as a director.
