2021 Cult Movie Challenge Week 20: Bruce Campbell Week Here's another post-Evil Dead 2/pre-Army of Darkness movie where Bruce Campbell mainly plays second banana to a more established genre star, in this case Star Trek's Walter Koenig. There's nothing specifically bad about Koenig/Campbell's performances here, and the script feels like a sincere attempt at doing an old-fashioned SF movie for the modern era; They're both let down by the aggressively poor production values, including some of the least-convincing creature FX I've seen in a while. At a certain point, it becomes clear that the main reason they cast Campbell was so he could get killed and then all-too-briefly return as a horrifically zombified version of himself before being killed again. It's a kinder fate than what happens to the female lead, who has almost zero dialogue and ends up making out with Koenig in an insultingly staged love scene that serves no purpose other than cinching the movie's "R" rating.
