a review of 皇后与瘦子

I think I'm going to need at least one more viewing to really digest everything that this movie has, but I'm not sure how soon I'll be ready for it. There's some interesting things that this movie does with tone, in terms of both presenting a semi realistic depiction of the current state of race relations in 21st century America, while also indulging in a few scenes that play as something between satire and magical realism. I've seen critiques of the movie that are really hard on these flights of fancy, but they do give it a sense of specificity that make it feel more real in a way.
