MANNVANUARY DEUX #1 I remember liking the remake of this quite a bit back when that came out, but had never taken the time to seek out and watch the original until now. As spare a morality play as you could hope for in a classic western, it's pretty much a two-hander for most of its running time. Ford as the Devil himself, Heflin as the hard-bitten pragmatist who finds a reason for idealism, and a lovely rhythm of ratcheted and released tension across the back half, a very pleasant watch on a quiet January night.
