2021 Cult Movie Challenge Week 9: Anime Week If "Whisper of the Heart" was a deconstruction of the kinds of fantasies that Studio Ghibli is best known for, this can be seen as something of a return to form. It doesn't operate on quite the same level of emotional depth as its predecessor, and the narrative and worldbuilding of the Cat Kingdom feels maybe just a little bit tossed-off, which might just be a factor of its short 75-minute runtime. But all in all, I found the characters pretty appealing, and am surprised that they haven't been revisited in any subsequent Ghibli features.
