2020 Cult Movie Challenge Week 50: Ninja Week This one was much sillier than I had anticipated (especially the ending line which I will not spoil), but the fight choreography and stunt performances kept me engaged. The humor sometimes feels surprisingly Western in tone, which is a conspicuous difference from a lot of movies in this vein. The director (Corey Yuen) went on to a pretty big career in both HK movies as well as Hollywood action fare, and directed a bunch of second-unit fight sequences for mainstream blockbusters in the 90s/00s, so perhaps this was his early calling card. I also know Hiroyuki Sanada entirely from his work in mainstream costume dramas over the last 20 years or so, so I had literally no idea that he was a pretty credible martial artist and sword fighter in a more grindhouse context.
