#83 (March 24/31) And my streak of disappointing movies continues, with the sort of half-baked sequel to Lamberto Bava's Demons, which I had watched a few days ago and actually enjoyed on a pure art-cheese level. The second one tries to re-create some of the dynamics of the first, putting the characters (one of whom is even played by Demons actor Bobby Rhodes in basically the same take-charge role) in a modern apartment building instead of a movie theater, but doesn't quite pull it off with the same panache. The gore effects were a real highlight of the first one, but here come across as unintentionally comical at times, particularly the moment where a Muppet-like mini-demon appears and totally undercuts the tension of the scene up to that point. Part of me would have liked to see them do more with this premise, but for better or worse here is where the Demons series ends.
