Hooptober, Night Eighteen: The only other Rudy Ray Moore movie that I've seen so far is Dolemite, which was definitely a lot of fun to watch but sort of insubstantial as either a gangster picture or a comedy. So I was honestly surprised by how cohesive this movie felt as both a vehicle for Moore's talents as a performer and as a supernatural farce. Watching it, I felt bad that Moore's film career went on hiatus in the 1980s, because in a lot of ways I feel like this movie is a natural precursor to the high-concept, action/FX comedies of the '80s, a la Blues Brothers or Ghostbusters or Big Trouble in Little China. After seeing this I honestly wonder what Moore and collaborator Cliff Roquemore could have done with a bigger budget thrown their way.
