西塞英雄谱 - 评论

First, it's not lost on me at all that, of all the things to choose to watch, this is what I landed on for Thanksgiving viewing. Second, what a(nother) frickin' great Altman! I was in from the jump, but it just kept delivering, then an emotional fallout carries us through to the (bittersweet, or just plain bitter?) end. And how insane to bring us this (of which I said elsewhere "America., or That's Just Show Business, Baby!") - and for America's bicentennial, no less! - the year after bringing us Nashville (ofwhich I also said "America."). Goddamn, was he on one or what?! (He was.) Third, every member of the cast gives their all. Everyone is great, and I dare not call out a single person. In conclusion, I loved it. (I really do not understand the general apathy or downright hate for this movie, but I guess that's what's so great about the arts; everyone has an opinion about all of it and no one is right about any of it.)
