2021 Cult Movie Challenge Week 13: Roger Corman Week Just a delightfully silly movie that has almost nothing to do with Poe and everything to do with watching three classic horror icons acting like bickering old codgers. I was surprised as hell to see Jack Nicholson pop up as a bland romantic hero type, as well as Richard Matheson's name on the script. In a lot of ways, this movie feels like a clear inspiration for the D&D/sword & sorcery fantasy aesthetic of the '70s and '80s, with the climactic magicians' duel feeling like exactly the sort of thing the TSR designers were trying to replicate with their spellcasting rules.
