As my good friend Jesse notes in his review: "Pretty bleak stuff here. Really focuses on Chihiro’s (Harumi Inoue) trauma and even the moments where she gets revenge don’t provide any type of catharsis." To that end, it's like the Requiem for a Dream of "rape-revenge" movies. A hard one to watch, but I appreciated any of the attempts of levity that it could muster (and perhaps there was a message trying to be made here about how such terrible things happen but the attackers still remove their shoes at the door because they live in a polite society).
