血池怪猫 - 评论

It's hard for me not to compare this to Kuroneko - both are "ghost cat" movies, both were released in 1968, both are presented beautifully (in their own ways) - and not say something dumb/reductive like "one of these is in the Criterion Collection, and it's not this one," so to say it differently: "one of them made me emotional, and it wasn't this one" While they share much of the same DNA, Kuroneko and Bakeneko are simply two different cats. What I think makes Bakeneko great in its own right is that it's not afraid to let its hair down and get a little out-there. There's more action, but also some dreamier moments where it takes a beat to get your bearings. Kuroneko might be the more impactful movie, but this one's pretty great, and I'm glad to own it.
