MANNVANUARY DEUX #3: I feel like this movie has its heart in the right place in terms of addressing many (if not quite all) of the hot-button issues surrounding police shootings and present-day race relations, etc. But I think in some ways it bites off more than it is prepared to chew, and might have benefitted from focusing on the three or four most important ideas instead of trying to hit every conceivable angle at once and not quite connecting. In any case, Amandla Stenberg and Regina Hall both give fantastic performances that elevate it above any gripes I had with the general execution. It also might help some folks who haven't been tuned into the issues to start thinking about the issues involved and hopefully start questioning some of the messages they hear in the media about them.
