MANNVANUARY FOUR: BONUS: At this point, I'm not certain that we've ever gotten a 100% accurate historical film of the people and events surrounding the Gunfight at the OK Corral. But I like this movie's approach to making both Doc Holliday and Wyatt Earp into opposing poles on the antihero spectrum, with Doc as a self-aware (not to say reluctant, exactly) heel and Earp as a man who's all too eager to sell what's left of his soul for a bit of power and money. Even if it's not strictly true, against the backdrop of the early '70s it feels truer than the less nuanced depictions in the earlier Sturges film and the subsequent Cosmatos film.
