NIGHT NINETEEN! + 2022 Criterion Challenge Week 41/Category 35: Growing Pains Another one that I would count as more horror-adjacent, although it does utilize the vampire/witch imagery in ways that definitely enhance the surreal/psychedelic mood of the piece. It was maybe just a little bit pervier than I was expecting, given the apparent age of the main character and the sexualized themes, etc. but I don't know that it necessarily crossed a line for me. As Criterion-released Czech New Wave girl-power films go, I think I prefer Daisies to this one. I would be curious to listen to the alternate freak-folk soundtrack, just to hear how it differs from the original.
