MANNVANUARY FOUR + 2025 CRITERION CHALLENGE Week 32: Ayo Edibiri's Closet Picks A much stranger and more thematically resonant film than I was anticipating. It reminded me a lot of both Melvin Van Peebles' DON'T PLAY US CHEAP (which I watched earlier this Mannvanuary) and Apichatpong Weeresethakul's UNCLE BOONMEE, in terms of being a vibrant and evocative portrait of Black family life and inter-/intra-generational tension as seen through the lens of magical realism and shared folklore.
