a review of 死亡漩涡

2021 CULT MOVIE CHALLENGE WEEK 45: FILM NOIR WEEK I think this might be one that I have to watch at least one more time before I can really form a final opinion. The first 40 minutes or so are some decent scene-setting, with a few tonal quirks (signaling the main character's horniness with a wacky slide-whistle sound effect is a real *choice*) and at least a couple of clever red herrings that I was honestly surprised never paid off. Once we move into the full-tilt investigation, the movie becomes kind of convoluted in the way that noir films often do, with lots of a heated verbal exchanges and names being thrown around (with or without actors to attach them to) and guns getting shoved in faces and bellies. At a certain point, the moment-to-moment continuity of who is double-crossing who became sort of abstract and I just had to go with it.
