FLOPUARY #5: I wish that this movie was maybe a hair more clever (or perhaps just a smidge dumber?) in its parody of overambitious high school dramatic productions and the sheer unearned egomania that fuels them. It also has to be said that we don't see nearly enough of the title play, and even what we get in the third act doesn't show us enough of the creative process to really nail the feeling of a runaway disaster musical. But ultimately the thing that tipped this over into being an enjoyable watch was Elisabeth Shue playing a burned-out version of herself in a hilariously-telegraphed romantic subplot that goes through the whole film.
